Something that I have always wanted to do but always felt like I couldn’t was to skip out on Christmas and head out for an experience. For whatever reason, I felt like I couldn’t do this before. I was married to the wrong person, or I felt like it was too much financially, or I was worried about drama with Xs. You name it! However, this year we found a deal and we went for it. You will see that this probably is a life theme for us: We found an opportunity and we went for it!

To be honest, I was afraid of the pictures I saw of the place we booked. Not because it was dirty or bad but because they were so amazing! Like how could this place only be what it was listed for? Maybe its a timeshare and someone wanted to charge less because it was better than loosing money? I didn’t even show my husband! Talk about trust! So I booked the trip, got the airfare, and we gathered up our blended family of 7 kids and left the country!

When we drove into Pueblo Bonita Montecristo Luxury Resort, we couldn’t believe our eyes! Our casa had three bedrooms, full kitchen, 4 bathrooms, a jacuzzi, and its own private swimming pool. With my hubby working full time and in school full time, and our busy lives, we needed this.

It was exciting! We had about half of the kids hadn’t left the country before. We had to have a small celebration for them. We had one that didn’t know there were mountains in Mexico! I chuckle to myself every time I think of that. In reality, we were so exhausted and ready for the break we didn’t even explore all that the resort had to offer. We just wanted to stay home and do nothing but enjoy the pool.

A plus to this place is that it has an all inclusive package option. If you are staying in the available hotel rooms this is perfect! There are pools and amenities for all guests. We saw a lot of things on the beach but we just didn’t have it in us for that kind of adventure in the short amount of time we booked. We needed our down time. Having not been there before and not trusting the pictures we also chose the all inclusive package. There were a variety of places to choose from. We did not go hungry! But as the casa did have a full kitchen, one could most definitely do your own shopping outside the resort and cook your meals.

The downsides? We had a “personal butler”. He was actually more of a hindrance than a help. He showed up a day late and anytime we needed him he was unavailable. Another thing this resort provided as free rides. Thank god because this resort was build on cliffs! The downside to this, is that if it was peak times, you might have to wait…a while! Also, bring a bunch of $1 bills. There wasn’t an ATM and we felt awful for not being able to tip.

In the end, it was a vacation club that we had to attend a meeting for. For what we felt like we got, it was well worth the meeting. Outside of relaxing by the pool the family favorite was the turtle release! They let us hold them! The turtles were only a couple hours old!
